Section 7216 Consents and Engagement Letter Language
Quoted paragraphs are mandatory and must not be edited. Highlighted items are fill-ins to complete before a client sees the form.
The right form for each situation. Not one form for everything.
Three different consents
A consent to disclose to a third party, a consent to disclose to a preparer outside the United States, and a consent to use each carry different mandatory statements and different rules about conditioning your services on them. The builder produces only the ones your situations need, each as its own document.
The engagement letter is not a consent
A paragraph in an engagement letter describes your practice. It never substitutes for a conforming consent, and the builder says so on every paragraph it writes. It also tells you which situations need no consent at all.
What it is not
It is not legal advice. Section 7216 carries criminal penalties, the facts decide which consent applies, and the Revenue Procedure's form rules govern Form 1040 series taxpayers. Counsel reviews the output before first use; the action list says so first. Builder version 1.0 (October 2026).
